MAMA MAGPIE: MOTHER PUKKA

As our Mama Magpie series concludes we speak to power house that is the Mother Pukka or Anna Whitehouse as her passport reads.

Not only is she #Parentingtheshitoutoflife and sharing her honest, frank and humours experiences with us all via her multimedia platform MotherPukka.co.uk but Whitehouse is the spearhead behind Flex Appeal  – a campaign for flexible working hours which she is marching and flash mobbing straight to the top – limber up and lets join her.

You’re not one to shy away from electric prints and bold colours has your sense of style changed since becoming a mum?

I wouldn’t say it’s evolved, it’s just stayed put. I just don’t fit my clothes as well as I did but I won’t ever edge away from a jazzy print. I’ll go to my grave in a neon five-tone shellsuit.

Anna Whitehouse, aka Mother Pukka and Matt Farquarson, aka Papa Pukka, with daughter Mae.

What style tips have you learned from Grandmother Pukka growing up?

That the most expensive stuff isn’t always the best. My mum loves a good hand-me-down and I live in an eclectic mix of charity finds, Zara basics and stuff that’s not in the wash.

Which items should be a staple in all women’s jewellery boxes ?

A delicate necklace worn every day that means something.  Some quirky studs that can transform a simple black top; some bold chandelier earrings for the occasional (oh so occasional) big night  & a smattering of delicate scandi-style rings.

Describe your ideal Mother’s Day?

On the sofa with Mae and a bowl of Cheerios.

Tell us about your #FlexAppeal campaign. Why do you think it’s important that workplaces offer flexible working for parents?

It’s about choice. At the moment swathes of women are being lopped out of the workforce for simply procreating. I’m aiming to show businesses and the wider world that we can smash through those glass ceilings – if we are there. Flexible working accommodates the ‘being there’ bit.

How can we get involved?

Join us at 12pm on 31 March at Trafalgar Square North Terrace to flash mob about the issue. It’s time to do more than just talk about flex, baby.
